Buffalo Death Whistle

The Buffalo Death Whistle is an Aztec Death Whistle inside a buffalo skull, painted and processed to look like actual bone. The Whistle is functional. This was designed and sold at The Buffalo State Student Holiday Sale, but is now being sold at Good Stuff Gallery & Gift on Allen St. Buffalo

Build Process

The original designing phase went through many different iterations, mainly tweaking the design after each of the 6-7 prototype prints until the whistle sounded good.

There is not a lot of space in the skull of a buffalo, so i had to create some by making a chamber on the bottom of the whistle, and a tube coming out of the top as a mouth piece, both of which were tweaked over and over to find the perfect structure.

The whistles were painted with multiple layers of White Gesso, then dirtied with umber acrylics, being finished with mod podge to seal it.

the whistles feature a loop in the back where it is attached to its product tag via twine to fit the rugged aesthetic

The product tags continue this aesthetic, with the information stamped on the back to continue this rugged, handcrafted feel.
